The Gettysburg and Littlestown field hockey teams got off to a hot start this season as division leaders, but Wednesday night they settled for a 1-1 tie at Gettysburg's Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors (5-1-1) came into the contest averaging nearly six goals a game and leading in the YAIAA Division III standings, but they were slowed by the Thunderbolts’ aggressive defense.
While they took charge in the game offensively with 12 shots on goal and 16 penalty corners, the Warriors were turned away 11 times by Littlestown (3-1-1) goalie Ariana Grabowicz, who has now allowed just two goals in her last three games.
“I think we were able to take some good things and feel positive,” said Gettysburg head coach Janelle Ebaugh. “The girls aren’t used to these close games, but it really showed how they were able to play as a team.”
Gettysburg’s Elena Montenegro found the back of the net in the first half and Littlestown’s Cailey Sentz matched that with a score of her own early in the second half before a scoreless overtime.
