Fundraiser held for Amanda Strous Scholarship
The Susquehannock High School field hockey team hosted a fundraiser to benefit the Amanda Strous Scholarship on Thursday.
Strous, a former Dallastown Area High School and Shippensburg University field hockey player, was killed in June 2016 at her apartment in North Carolina.
The Susquehannock field hockey team ran a bake sale during a home game against Dallastown, where they sold drinks and baked goods and raised $260. Additionally, the Susquehannock High School staff donated $193 from its staff spirit day.
Gate fees -- a total of $346 -- were collected and given to the Shippensburg University Amanda Strous scholarship fund.
Susquehannock seniors Carsen Bateman, Brooke Morris, Emily Schertle and Maddie Tomasic said that Strous' death "really hit home" for them as fellow field hockey players. The team wore purple ribbons during the game, since purple was Strous' favorite color.
"We are opponents during the season, but we're all connected," Bateman said.
