Dallastown snaps York Suburban's winning streak

Before a race, the Dallastown girls' cross country team keeps the talk simple: Run your best.

The Wildcats did that — and more — at  York Suburban High School Wednesday.

With five Dallastown runners securing top-10 finishes, Dallastown defeated York Suburban, 18-38, ending the Trojans' winning streak in dual meets. York Suburban's last loss in a dual meet before Wednesday came in 2007.

“They’re a very, very good school,” said Trojans head coach Dan VanHouwe. “Next week, we’ll start a new streak and see how long we can take that one. Win or lose, the girls know our goal is postseason.”

Dallastown also defeated York Catholic, 19-41, while York Suburban defeated the Irish, 20-43.

Emily Schuler, a freshman for the Wildcats, won the meet in 19 minutes, 34.26 seconds. Her teammates weren’t too far behind as a wave of blue poured across the finish line more than two minutes after she did.

Smiles filled the faces of many shortly after that.

“We trained for this moment,” Schuler said. “In practice, we (strive) to better ourselves. The focus is on us and us only.”

Isabela Wise and Allison Myers placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Both girls ran times just under 21 minutes.

Lydia Fimmano and Carly Gable rounded out the top 10 for the Wildcats with a seventh- and ninth-place finish.

“This result was our goal since the beginning of the season,” Wise said with a smile. “We’re all happy about it and the postseason (can’t come soon enough).”

Dallastown head coach Doug Moyer has seen the difference of his team from earlier on in the season to now. He couldn’t be more proud and excited for what’s to come.

“Our girls are starting to believe in themselves as individuals and as a team,” he said. “It started a couple weeks ago when we had a real good invitational. That was the turning point.

“The goal was to go undefeated in our league and this is certainly a step toward that. If we continue to run this well, we’ve got a shot at states.”
