York Suburban boys advances to District 3 final


York Suburban and Red Lion both reached the District 3 semifinals, but each had a different result Wednesday. The Class AA Trojans advanced to Friday’s championship against Northeastern with a sweep of Daniel Boone. The Class AAA Lions will play in Friday’s third-place match after being swept by Hempfield. Here are recaps of each contest:

York Suburban 3, Daniel Boone 0: York Suburban advanced to the District 3 Class AA championship match with a sweep of Daniel Boone at Penn Manor.

The Trojans won, 25-11, 25-17, 25-14, setting up a showdown with fellow YAIAA member Northeastern, at 6 p.m. Friday at Dallastown.

York Suburban setter Kaleb Ansell did a little bit of everything for York Suburban, recording 29 assists, three kills, two blocks and four digs. Sepehr Vakili led the way offensively with eight kills, while Jack Schultz added five blocks to go with his seven kills.

The No. 7-ranked team in the state had eight players record kills.

Lancaster Mennonite will meet Daniel Boone in the third-place match at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Penn Manor.

Hempfield 3, Red Lion 0: Red Lion saw its chance at a District 3 Class AAA championship slip away at the hands of Hempfield.

The Black Knights had their way with the Lions during the first two sets before the Lions made things tight in ta 25-11, 25-14, 25-20 sweep.

Red Lion will now face Ephrata in the third-place match at 6 p.m. Friday at Penn Manor.
