D-3 roundup: Bobcats, Trojans sweep foes


Northeastern 3, Cocalico 0: Northeastern made quick work of Cocalico in the quarterfinals of the District 3 Class AA tournament with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-9 sweep that lasted just 45 minutes at Penn Manor.

The victory also assured the state's No.-1 ranked team another trip to the PIAA tournament where they will look to win their fourth consecutive championship.

Leading Northeastern was Ohio State commit Reese Devilbiss, who registered 11 kills to go along with a pair of aces and blocks. Matt Schaeffer served up 28 assists while Taemar Willis and Jeff Reynolds each added six kills.

The Bobcats (17-0) will meet Lancaster Mennonite in Wednesday’s semifinals at a site and time to be determined. The Blazers dispatched Northern York in five sets, 18-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-15, 15-13.

York Suburban 3, Palmyra 0: York Suburban advanced to the District 3 Class AA semifinals with a sweep of Palmyra at Northern York.

The Trojans picked up the 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 win in just under an hour. The victory improves the seventh-ranked Class AA team in the state to 14-3 overall and qualifies them for the PIAA tournament which begins next week.

York Suburban received a balanced effort on the offensive side as three players received seven or more kills. Zach Weinstein led the way with eight kills while Jack Schultz and Sepehr Vakili each added seven.

Vakili also added four assists and Schultz added four blocks, while Kaleb Ansell put up 29 assists.

The Trojans will meet Daniel Boone in Wednesday’s semifinal at a site and time to be determined. The Blazers needed five sets to defeat Manheim Central, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14, 23-25, 15-9.
