Gettysburg boys fall in semifinal

The Gettysburg boys' soccer team lost 1-0 to Northwestern Lehigh in a PIAA Class 3A semifinal Tuesday at Cedar Crest High School.

It's the second consecutive year the Warriors have lost in the semifinals, although this season had a different feel to it. Gettysburg lost plenty of firepower off its 2015 squad yet rebounded to vie for a state title and finish with a 22-4 overall record.

"We loved every minute of it," said Warriors' co-head coach Ian Hancock. "Exceeding expectations is more fun then meeting expectations, and we're proud of our team and the effort they gave."

Hancock said overall the team was happy with its performance, although the coaches wanted to see a few more offensive scoring chances. Northwestern Lehigh's lone goal came in the first half of play.

The Warriors will return a solid core next season with goalkeeper Yanni Tassou, defender Kellen Fees, rising sophomore Logan Carbaugh and rising junior Cade Wilhelm.
