GameTimePA YAIAA 2017 boys' lacrosse All-Stars
Athlete of the Year
TJ Ross, Central York
Yes, his 66 goals were impressive. Equally as impressive were his 35 assists. Ross wasn’t just putting the ball in the back of the net, he was also creating opportunities for his teammates. You couldn’t ask for a higher compliment. Particularly when that team finishes with an undefeated league record and a YAIAA championship. Case closed.
FIRST-TEAM ALL-STARS
Eli Doyle, York Catholic
The anchor of the Irish, Doyle fired home 80 regular-season goals and ripped off 22 assists. He showed up in big moments for a team that went 11-2 in league and played an exciting brand of lacrosse. Kid’s a gamer, pure and simple.
Sam Emig, Red Lion
One of the league’s top attackman for three years running, Emig scored 68 goals and recorded 31 assists in 2017. The goals scored were twice as many as any of his Lions’ teammates.
AJ Lentz, Dallastown
Rough and rugged, Lentz was the best defenseman in the league. The senior plays mean, and can beat up elite attackmen while shutting them down on the scoreboard. One tough customer.
Tanner Bolton, Spring Grove
When he gets rolling, he’s tough to stop. Bolton is the Rockets’ primary faceoff man and top goal scorer, meaning he wins draws, puts it in the back of the net and then does it all over again. That’s called a vicious cycle.
Kollin Vaught, Central York
This kid’s tough. The faceoff specialist won draws at a high level (78 percent), which gave Central’s high-powered attack more than enough time to keep possession. He’s also a big, fast athlete who could score. A true difference-maker for the Panthers.
Nate Downey, Dallastown
The Wildcats had the best collective defensive unit in the YAIAA this year and Downey was the long-stick midfielder who held it together. He's quick and has good instincts for the game.
Nick Race, South Western
The Mustangs were a surprise team this season, recording a 7-6 YAIAA record and a win over Red Lion. Race was a primary reason why, making 190 saves on 56 percent.
Cody Richter, West York
A one-man wrecking crew for the Bulldogs, Richter scored 54 goals on the year while handing out 19 assists.
Adam Rebich, Susquehannock
He led the way for the Warriors with 43 goals and 17 assists on the season. Susquehannock, for its part, qualified for the YAIAA tournament.
Ethan Pickett, Dallastown
The top attackman for the Wildcats, Pickett fired home 51 goals and dished out 24 assists this season.
Jim Kurnick, Eastern York
A true gamer for a Golden Knights team that made a major state tournament run. Kurnick finished the year with 50 goals and 58 assists. He also was the team’s top faceoff man, winning draws at a 71 percent clip.
Coach of the Year
Tom Mayne, Central York
The Panthers finished the season with an undefeated record in the YAIAA and a league championship. Yes, Central York had talent, but Mayne had to mold it, coach it and hold it together. Shane Harper at York Catholic also did a great job this year – the Irish lost a lot from last year’s championship team, but made a run of their own once again and improved as the season moved along. Still, this is Mayne’s award. His team, after all, took home the gold.
Honorable mention
York Suburban: Dominic Corto, Blake Wallace
Spring Grove: Dylan Griffiths
Red Lion: Mason Gauntt, Elijah Workinger
York Catholic: Drew Snelbaker
Central York: Alex Kilgour
Eastern York: Dominic Particelli
