District 3 lacrosse: Eastern, Suburban break through

The York Suburban boys' lacrosse team earned its first-ever District 3 lacrosse victory Tuesday, a 4-3 decision over Lancaster Country Day.

The visiting Trojans knocked off the No. 6 seed in the Class 2A tournament, thanks to a supreme effort in goal by Blake Wallace. He stopped 17 of the 20 shots he faced. York Suburban, the tournament's No. 11 seed, was opportunistic, converting four goals on seven shots.

Dominic Corto led the Trojans with a goal and an assist.

Only two other YAIAA teams were victorious in Tuesday's first round.

York Catholic and Eastern York picked up victories in the Class 2A tournament, making it three YAIAA squads in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The No. 2 seeded Fighting Irish knocked off South Western, 18-13, at home while the No. 12 seeded Golden Knights traveled to Susquehannock to beat the Warriors, 9-7.

The Eastern York victory was their first-ever in the District 3 tournament.

Central York, the YAIAA champion, received a bye in Class 3A and will meet Hempfield, the field's No. 6 seed after the Black Knights beat Penn Manor, 12-8.

York Catholic will host No. 10 seed Lower Dauphin, a 10-9 winner over Red Land. Eastern York will travel to No. 4 seed Trinity, who knocked off West York, 15-14. York Suburban will travel to face Hershey, a 15-4 winner over Conrad Weiser.

Also competing in the tournament was Spring Grove, which fell to top-seeded Palmyra, 19-5, in Class 2A. No. 13 West York lost a heart-breaker to No. 4 Trinity, 15-14, despite leading most of the contest.

In Class 3A, Dallastown lost to Carlisle, 8-7, and Red Lion lost to Warwick, 10-7.
