Reading's Walker, Perez named to All-USA team

After bringing home Reading High School's first PIAA boys' basketball championship, senior guard Lonnie Walker and coach Rick Perez have picked up another honor.

Perez was named All-USA Pennsylvania Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by USA Today High School Sports. Walker was named to the All-USA Pennsylvania first team. Click here to see the full list of honorees.

Players were selected based on their athletic achievements from the 2016-17 season.

Walker, who will play for the University of Miami, was named to the all-state team last week and was a McDonald's All-American. He averaged 18.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and became Reading's all-time leading scorer.

Perez was also named the Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers.

Reading High senior Lonnie Walker opted to stay with his high school team even when people told him he needed to transfer to a powerhouse program. The Miami recruit once again has Reading thinking about a state title run in 2016-17.
