Delone Catholic did so many things right in the first half.

It slowed down Eli Brooks, throwing a diamond-and-one defense at the Rockets, with Brady Alexander shadowing Brooks. It held the Rockets scoreless for almost the first four minutes of the second quarter. And it hit the shots it needed to, trailing by just two points at halftime.

But none of that mattered after Spring Grove put on a dominating display in the first 1:14 of the second half.

Spring Grove rolled into the YAIAA boys’ basketball tournament semifinal with a 64-42 victory over Delone Catholic Saturday night at Red Lion High School.

Spring Grove opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run in just 74 seconds, with Brooks throwing down his second dunk of the game. Delone committed three consecutive turnovers against Spring Grove's press in that span.

"The zone slows us down," Spring Grove coach James Brooks said. "We just picked up the intensity."

By the end of the third quarter, Spring Grove’s lead had mushroomed from two points to 20.

"As soon as we got that first steal, we were like they aren't going to pass half court," Spring Grove's Austin Panter said.

Brooks led the onslaught, scoring 15 of his game-high 34 in the third quarter. He added 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Panter added 17 points.

Evan Brady led Delone with 12 points.
