Northeastern rallies past William Penn in 2OT
The William Penn boys' basketball team nearly carded another statement victory on Tuesday night, but Northeastern dug out of a 16-point deficit to earn a 85-83 victory in double overtime.
Northeastern's Fred Mulbah hit the winning shot in the closing seconds of the second overtime. The Bearcats got the ball back with 1.1 seconds left, but Antonio Rizzuto deflected the inbounds pass near halfcourt to seal the victory for the Bobcats.
The Bearcats were eyeing a second victory against one of the top two teams in the division, after William Penn beat Spring Grove, 72-64, on Dec. 16.
And it looked like the Bearcats were well on their way to pulling it off against Northeastern, pushing the lead to 16 points in the second half before the Bobcats recovered, forcing overtime at 66-66.
Northeastern improves to 11-2 in the division, 19-2 overall. William Penn slides to 5-8, 7-13.
The Bobcats stayed even with Spring Grove at the top of the division. The Rockets also narrowly avoided a loss on Tuesday, earning a 62-58 victory against Dallastown to reach 11-2 in the division, as well.
