Defending district champion York Country Day changes coaches
The defending District 3 champions and the top team in the current District 3 power rankings have made a coaching change with no indication whether it is a temporary or long-term move.
Head coach Corey Stiles, who led the team to an undefeated run through the regular season and the District 3 tournament last season, was placed on paid administrative leave two weeks ago, York Country Day athletic director Jim Mustard said Tuesday.
Stiles was still listed as the head boys' basketball coach on the York Country Day website as of Wednesday afternoon.
Stiles directed all questions to Mustard.
Chris Charleston, who has been a successful girls' head coach for the Greyhounds, is serving as the interim head coach for the boys' basketball team.
Asked if some action will be taken during the season to reinstate Stiles or to remove the interim tag on Charleston, Mustard stated: "I don't know, I have no other comment."
Mustard denied a request to talk to Charleston noting: "He does not want to talk, he wants to focus on the team right now."
Stiles, who won a District 3 basketball title as a player at York Catholic High School, was in his third season with the Greyhounds. Taking over a losing program, Stiles built the Greyhounds into one of the region's best small-school teams, with Northeastern transfer DeAireus Brown earning all-state honors last season during the Greyhounds' run to the Class A state tournament.
The Greyhounds (10-3) return to action Thursday when they host Fairfield at 7:30 p.m.
