Trojans expected to hire Triggs as hoops coach

It appears the search for a new basketball coach at York Suburban is over.

Listed on Monday’s school board meeting agenda is the recommendation to hire Tom Triggs as the new boys’ basketball coach for the 2016-17 season. This would be Triggs' second stint at the helm of the Trojans’ basketball program.

Suburban began searching for a new head coach after the school board had accepted former coach Dustin Boeckel’s resignation on March 21. At the time Chris Adams, York Suburban’s assistant principal and now-former athletic director, earmarked April 18 as the date he hoped to have a recommendation for a new coach for the school board.

Adams did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Triggs previously coached the Trojans from the 1998-99 season through 2011-12. During that time he went 218-120 and won the program’s only District 3 Class AAA championship. Triggs also led York Suburban to league and district playoffs in nine consecutive seasons.

In addition, the Trojans qualified for the state playoffs in four of his last six seasons. The Trojans have only had three head boys' basketball coaches in the school’s history.
