Rebound machine Reynolds powers Northeastern

Jeff Reynolds is called the bedrock of the Northeastern boys' basketball team.

On Friday night, the senior proved why.

The Bobcats didn't shoot very well against Gettysburg, but time and again Reynolds was there to clean up the boards and continue to give his team that valued extra possession.

And Northeastern used those extra possessions to claim a 65-55 victory against the Warriors.

"He gave us a pretty good game," Bobcats head coach Jon Eyster said of Reynolds. "He's our rock. He cleans up the glass. He takes a beating and keeps on ticking."

Reynolds posted 19 rebounds to go along with nine points, all while continuing to battle through a groin injury.

"Personally my goal every game is to get at least 15 rebounds," Reynolds said. "If scoring comes, then it comes, but I just try to do the stuff that will help us win outside of scoring."

A night after clinching the YAIAA Division II crown, the Bobcats (17-1, 13-0) never trailed despite shooting just 37 percent from the field.

"We didn't shoot very well. That was maybe as poorly as we've shot all year," Eyster said.

Kobi Nwandu led the Bobcats with 20 points, and Donovian Maxfield supplied 13.

Gettysburg (12-6, 7-6) battled back from a 12-point hole in the third quarter and closed within three points of the lead in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get over the hump.

The Warriors trailed 53-50 with 2:42 to play, but Northeastern went on a 5-1 run, to take a seven-point lead with 1:13 to play.

Gettysburg was led by Marquise Camel's 18 points. Ravaughn Dillard added 11. The Warriors were just 11-of-23 from the foul line.
