Roundup: Nicholas, Eastern edge West York


Eastern York's Broguen Nicholas scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Golden Knights to a 58-57 victory against West York in Tuesday's YAIAA Division II boys' basketball action.

The Golden Knights took a 14-4 first-quarter lead. West York answered with a 15-5 second quarter to go into halftime tied at 19. Eastern edged West York in the third quarter, 16-15, and that proved to be the margin. Jared Achterberg chipped in 14 points for Eastern.

Darian McCauley led the Bulldogs with 17 points, and Josh Bailey added 13. Kenton Meckley joined them in double digits with 12 points.

York Suburban 66, Kennard-Dale 54: The Trojans dug themselves out of a seven-point halftime hole to beat Kennard-Dale.

The Trojans outscored the Rams, 36-18, in the second half to earn the win. Thomas Merkle led the charge with 19 points while Donovan Mears added 16.

The Rams received 19 points from Kyle Wooldridge and 16 points from Adam Freese.

New Oxford 56, Red Lion 51: The Colonials scored 30 points from behind the arc to defeat the Lions on the road. John Wessel led the way with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Devon Duvall added 12 points and Ben Lehman had 10.

Gary Hunt scored 13 points, and Wyatt Tyson had 12 to lead the Lions.

Central York 64, South Western 56: Jared Wagner poured in 20 points, and Onterio Edmonds added 14 to help the Panthers earn the YAIAA Division I win. Nathan Markey joined his Central teammates in double figures. The Panthers built all the margin they'd need with a 21-12 first quarter.

South Western's Brock Geiman scored a game-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers.
