Susquehannock boys bounce back against Bolts

A strong first half sent Littlestown to the locker room with a four-point lead at halftime, but a disaster of a third quarter proved too much for the Thunderbolts to overcome in Littlestown's 58-48 loss to Susquehannock in YAIAA boys' basketball action Monday at Littlestown.

Littlestown (6-8) held a 29-25 halftime lead, but it committed three turnovers in the first minute of the third quarter and six in the frame as the Warriors outscored the Bolts, 18-7, in the third period to take a 43-36 lead into the final stanza.

"The wheels fell off in the third quarter for us, and we didn't even know where they rolled," Littlestown head coach Scott Motter said. "They didn't change what they were doing, we just stopped executing on both ends of the floor."

Bolts freshman Logan Collins started the fourth quarter with a triple that trimmed the deficit to four and his trifecta with 6:16 left cut the lead to 46-42.

Susquehannock (4-8) led 48-44 with just under five minutes to play before the Warriors stifled the Bolts for the rest of the night to sew up the victory.

"We played a good first half, but it could've been even better," Motter said. "And that's what we told the kids at halftime. That they were playing well but that we knew that they could play better. That's a good thing, too. We've progressed to the point where we have expectations of how we're going to play and not just trying to figure out ways to stay in games."

With eight games to go in the regular season, the Bolts are in position to finish with double-digit wins for the first time since 2007-08, when they went 12-13.

"We're getting better," Motter said. "You can tell a big difference for us from the beginning of the season up to now."

Collins paced the Bolts with 20 points.

The Warriors were led by Peyton Reider (18 points) and Nick Tannura (13).

Tannura's bucket with 3:24 to play in the third quarter erased Littlestown's lead for good, and Susquehannock led, 35-33.
