Roundup: Nicholas, Achterberg ignite Eastern


Broguen Nicholas scored 18 points to lead the Eastern York boys' basketball team to a 60-45 win against Susquehannock on Friday night.

Jared Achterberg dropped in 17 for Eastern. The Golden Knights trailed by a 19-7 margin after the first quarter but held the Warriors to three second-quarter points, then put up a 25-point third quarter.

Susquehannock's Adam Hedgeland was hot from 3-point land, draining four from deep for all 12 of his points.

Luis DeLeon scored 14 points to lead the way for Tech. Bermudian’s Quinton Nace had a big night with 27 points.

Central York 62, Red Lion 43: Jared Wagner and Nathan Markey combined for 31 points as two of four Panthers to reach double figures in a win against the Lions.

Wagner led the way with 17 points and Markey added 14. Joining them in double figures were Onterio Edmonds (12) and Courtney Batts (10).

The Panthers led 29-25 at the half but built a lead with a 15-5 run in the third quarter, sparked by Wagner’s eight-point frame.

The Lions received a team-high 11 points from Jason Rebuck.

The hosts led by nine points after three quarters before going on a 23-5 run over the final eight minutes to win going away.
