York Catholic takes third; Littlestown wins in OT

The York Catholic boys' basketball team ran away from Columbia on Monday night to claim third place in the District 3 Class 3A tournament.

The Fighting Irish won, 81-62, on Monday, rebounding nicely from last week's double-overtime loss in the semifinals to Lancaster Mennonite.

The Irish had already qualified for the state tournament. They'll take on the District 12 champion in the first round of states on Friday, March 10. District 12 contains Philadelphia.

The Littlestown boys kept their state hopes alive, rallying past Susquehanna Township in overtime to win, 45-41. They will take on Schuykill Valley at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Milton Hershey. Only the fifth-place finisher qualifies for states.

Schuylkill Valley advanced to that fifth-place game by ending Eastern York's season with a 61-58 decision in Mnoday's other consolation semifinal.

And on the girls' side, J.P. McCaskey beat Dallastown, 40-36, in a Class 6A consolation semifinal. Dallastown will play in the seventh-place game for the final berth in the state tournament. The Wildcats will take on Central Dauphin East at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumberland Valley. The loser of that game will see its season end.
