GameTimePA YAIAA baseball All-Stars 2017

Athlete of the Year

Ben Stewart, Kennard-Dale

An excellent player for Kennard-Dale, and one that must be rewarded following the Rams’ standout season. Stewart played last year at Calvert Hall in Maryland before returning to the Rams for his senior season. Standing at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he was lights out on the mound (7-1 record, 0.94 ERA, 32 strikeouts and just seven walks in 52 innings of work) and dangerous at the plate (.392 batting average, two home runs, 17 RBI). All this for a Rams team that finished the year with a 15-3 regular season record and a 12-2 mark in the YAIAA after moving down to Division III. He’ll play next year at Messiah College.

FIRST-TEAM ALL-STARS

Bryant Holtzapple, Dallastown

An absolute beast behind the plate, Holtzapple shined defensively and also in handling a pitching staff that was without standout Nick Parker for much of the regular season. Offensively, Holtzapple hit .325 with 22 RBI. Catch him next year at George Washington University.

Tyler Stabley, Red Lion

This tough, left-handed competitor led the Lions pitching staff with a 5-2 record and a 1.79 ERA. Stabley picked up wins over postseason programs Dallastown and Gettysburg this season.

Tye Golden, Dallastown

One of the top players in the league for a long time. During his four-year career, Golden played second base, third base and shortstop for the Wildcats. This year he also batted leadoff, finishing the year with .304 average, 22 stolen bases and 33 runs scored. He will take the field next year at Old Dominion University.

Jonathan Sager, Spring Grove

A great hitter for Rockets over recent seasons. Sager finished the year batting over .400, as head coach Kevin Stiffler said the shortstop finished virtually every contest with multiple hits. Sager was also a key member of the Spring Grove pitching rotation.

Zach Gettys, West York

It was an absolutely sensational year for this senior right-hander who’s headed to Penn State-Harrisburg. The Bulldogs rarely if ever lost when Gettys took the mound, as he held an 8-0 record and a 1.36 ERA during the regular season. He also had 76 strikeouts in 51 innings of work. Gettys was also a solid leadoff hitter for West York, recording a .477 batting average, one home run and 14 RBI.

Brandon Knarr, Eastern York

An absolute stud. Knarr, a Notre Dame commit, fired 107 strikeouts in 51.1 innings of work. He also recorded all five of the Golden Knights’ wins this season. On a better team, Knarr wouldn’t have lost. As a matter of fact, he may not have given up a run.

Joe Capobianco, Dallastown

Excellent at the plate and in the field at second base, Capobianco hit .367 with one home run and 19 RBI as the Wildcats’ senior cleanup hitter. Baseball is also in his blood: Capobianco’s younger brother, Peter, was a standout freshman for the Wildcats this past year.

Hunter Sentz, Susquehannock

Excellent on the mound and in the field as the Warriors’ starting shortstop. Sentz hit .355 on the season in the middle of the Warriors’ batting order. On the hill, he won four games and clocked in with a 1.18 ERA.

Ethan Ketterman, Gettysburg

The senior second baseman hit .371 for the Warriors, led the team with 14 RBI and also was a consistent clutch performer throughout the season. The Warriors finished the year as YAIAA Division II champions and played for the league championship.

Coach of the Year

Greg Kinneman, Dallastown

All the Wildcats did after a 3-4 start was go on a 20-game winning streak, win their second-straight YAIAA championship, capture the program’s first-ever District 3 title and finish as state runner-up in Class 6A. Kinneman, in his second year with Dallastown, got a talented collection of players to compete as a solidified unit while guiding the program to new heights. Equally as impressive was how the team carried itself throughout its postseason run – always playing together and keeping a positive approach. That’s a reflection of its leader.
