District roundup: Eastern softball walks off a winner
The Eastern York softball team opened up the District 3 Class 4A postseason Friday with a 5-4 walk-off win over Bishop McDevitt.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Maelynn Leber hit a walk-off double, pushing Eastern York to Tuesday's semifinal against ninth-seeded James Buchanan.
Also joining the Golden Knights in the Class 4A semifinals is Division III counterpart Kennard-Dale. The Rams advanced by knocking off YAIAA foe West York, 5-0.
Kennard-Dale will face No. 3 seed East Pennsboro. Sites and times have yet to be determined.
In Class 5A, Spring Grove reached the semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Lower Dauphin. The Rockets will face No. 1 seed Lampeter-Strasburg in Tuesday's semifinal at a site and time to be determined.
In other softball action, Littlestown's season ended in an 8-1 loss to East Pennsboro in the Class 4A quarterfinals.
Dallastown and Kennard-Dale baseball advance
The Dallastown baseball team continued its late-season surge with a 9-2, home victory against Manheim Township on Friday in the quarterfinals of the District 3 Class 6A tournament.
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning the Wildcats erupted for eight runs to win.
Dallastown will meet No. 3 seed Penn Manor in a semifinal on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Kennard-Dale, the No. 6 seed in Class 4A, traveled to Berks Catholic and came out with a 2-1 victory Friday. The Rams advance to take on YAIAA foe West York.
The meeting between the Rams and Bulldogs will be historic. It marks the first time since 1983 that two current YAIAA schools will have met in a District 3 baseball semifinal. The last time came 34 years ago, when New Oxford beat York Catholic, 7-3, in Chambersburg to advance to the Class 2A championship.
In other baseball action, Biglerville and Christian School of York both saw their seasons come to an end.
The Canners dropped a 7-0 decision to Oley Valley in a Class 3A semifinal. And the Crusaders lost to Millersburg, 11-0, in five innings in a 1A semifinal.
