Holtzapple, Hood to play Division I baseball

Two more York-Adams baseball players have committed to play at NCAA Division I schools.

Dallastown catcher Bryant Holtzapple has committed to play for George Washington University after he graduates in 2017. Susquehannock shortstop and pitcher Connor Hood signed his National Letter of Intent in late November to play at Seton Hall.

For both, the commitments are a culmination of years of hard work paying off.

“I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done to get there,” Hood said. “Just really thankful about everything my parents and everyone around me that’s helped me a lot along the way. It’s just a really good feeling.”

The two have had successful high school careers to date. Hood, a senior, batted .458 last season and was a named a YAIAA All-Star for the third consecutive year. Holtzapple, a junior, had a .277 batting average and 10 RBIs for Dallastown. He was also selected to play in the Big 26 Classic.

“It’s great. It’s very relieving knowing that all of the time we put in paid off,” Holtzapple said of committing to George Washington. “And that I can continue playing baseball in college.”

The Dallastown catcher has two more seasons to go before he embarks on the next chapter of life, and he is optimistic that the Wildcats will be good this upcoming season. “I have to focus on…getting ready for that season so we can make a run somewhere,” he said.

Hood is ready for his senior season with Susquehannock and is equally optimistic. He has been working out with his teammates several days a week and in January they will begin focusing on hitting.

“It looks good,” Hood said of the upcoming year. “It looks like the team should be good this year. I’m pretty excited about it.”
