Daniel Boone baseball explodes for 13 runs in ninth vs. West York

Daniel Boone and West York played an evenly matched game in Tuesday's District 3 Class AAA first-round baseball game.

Until the ninth inning, that is.

The Blazers exploded in the inning, plating 13 runs to go ahead, 19-6, which would eventually become the final score. As the nearly thirty-minute half inning wore on, the earlier excitable and rowdy Bulldog fans grew increasingly quiet.

"There are no words to describe it," West York coach Roger Czerwinski said of the ninth inning.

Brendan Rivoli's two-run single broke a 6-all tie and sparked a rally that included nine hits against three separate West York pitchers.

"We had a lot of good swings, and a lot of lucky bounces," Daniel Boone coach Jason McCord said. "Everything we hit found a hole."

Contrary to the events of the final inning, most of the game was nerve-racking.

West York (16-5) rallied from down 6-4 in the seventh, scoring two runs on base hits by Cash Gladfelter and Logan Stover. Brett Kinneman, who will play baseball for N.C. State next year, stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. The star center fielder drove the ball roughly 365 feet where Daniel Boone's Eric Schweitzer settled under it for the final out of the inning.

The Bulldogs had the momentum going into extra innings, but unfortunately for West York, it would be the final time it would come within striking distance of Daniel Boone (12-10).

"I'm honored to be a part of such a special group of guys," Czerwinski said after the game.

Seven seniors graduate for the Bulldogs this year; six are going to college and one to the military.

Bryce Stout stepped up for the Blazers all throughout the game, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs. Daniel Boone will face L-L League foe Manheim Central in Thursday's quarterfinal round.
