Kennard-Dale 'Iron Rams' win powerlifting title

Kennard-Dale's "Iron Rams" powerlifting team won the small division title at the Pennsylvania teenage state championships on Feb. 25 at Parkland High School in Allentown.

The Rams sent 22 athletes and produced eight individual champions, five runners-up and three third-place finishers at the event sanctioned by the Pennsylvania State Coaches Powerlifting Association.

Ryan McNutt set a state record of 545 pounds in the deadlift and a 1,300 total in the 198-pound weight class.

Shawn Ellis received the Best Lifter Award after lifting 405 pounds in the squat, 275 pounds in the bench press and 525 in the deadlift Ellis weighs just 174 pounds.

Kennard-Dale won the team title over runner-up Salisbury High School of Allentown and third-place finisher Central York.

The "Iron Rams" will be back in action March 18 when they travel to Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech near Bloomsburg for their next competition.
