Red Lion upsets New Oxford for cheer title; Dallastown repeats

The Dallastown and Red Lion cheerleading teams earned some more hardware for the trophy case on Saturday by winning the District 3 competitive spirit championships at Central Dauphin East.

Both teams were coming off YAIAA championships last month before winning their respective divisions at Saturday's championships, which were delayed several weeks by winter weather.

Dallastown won its second straight medium division title, edging out Dover for the No. 1 spot. Meanwhile, Red Lion unseated four-time defending champion New Oxford to win the co-ed division. New Oxford had won five straight titles overall.

Last month, Red Lion and Dallastown both repeated as YAIAA champions in the same divisions.

In other action at the district championships Saturday, Cumberland Valley won the large division for its seventh straight overall title, and Central Dauphin East won the small division.
