Tuesday's best: Dallastown volleyball downs Central


Dallastown girls' volleyball staved off an aggressive Central York team in five games to come away with a 3-2 win (8-25, 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 15-10) on Tuesday night.

Dallastown experienced strong performances from Katherine Forry, Olivia Terroso Delaney Kolb and Gabby Ream. Ream recorded a team-high 38 assists, while Kolb had 18 kills in the Wildcats' win over Central. Forry ended the night with 17 digs, and Torroso was big for Dallastown along the net with three blocks.

"(Terroso) had some key blocks at essential times," Dallastown coach Shannon Werner said. "I though my setter, Gabby, she made some very good choices tonight."

Kolb also heralded Terroso's effort.

"She was the one that kept pressuring us to not give up," Kolb said.

Emma Saxton also had 38 assists for Central, and Marley Anderson recorded a game-high 24 digs for the Panthers.

Boys' soccer

Lafaver leads Mustangs to rivalry win: Zach Lafaver scored in both the first and second half to lead South Western past Spring Grove, 4-1.

Spencer Wells and Charlie Klecker also contributed goals in the Mustangs' win against their arch rival. South Western controlled the ball for much of the game, outshooting Spring Grove, 13-3.

Girls' soccer

Wildcats streak past Bobcats in division clash: Northeastern gave defending YAIAA champion Dallastown fits last season, but the Wildcats had no problems with their division foe in this year's first meeting.

Natalie Gettle scored two goals and Jordan Lese, Carsyn Gold and Skyler Wilt each added a goal in a 5-0 victory. Goalkeeper Allison Hameier made nine saves in the shutout win.

Warriors emerge victorious in high-scoring game: Gettysburg scored six goals and needed almost every single one to beat division foe West York, 6-4.

Grace Floreck, Alana Bortner, Sophia Kranias and Madilyn Welty all scored for the Warriors in the first half to build a 4-2 halftime lead, and Floreck added two more goals in the second half to put the game away.

Gabbie Smith, Allie Becker, Alyssa Narber and Mckenzie Gerrick scored for the Bulldogs.

Cross country

McLain wins by nearly a minute: Eastern York junior Maddie McLain ran the Dallastown 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 35 seconds to win the five-team meet by 53 seconds. Her time ranks fifth-fastest in the state on any course so far this season.

Dallastown swept Eastern York, South Western, West York and Biglerville by placing its top five runners — Emily Schuler, Isabella Wise, Allison Myers, Sarah Groetz and Lydia Fimmano — all in the top seven.

Girls' tennis

Lesher, Teaford help Eagles edge Trojans: After Alex DiGovanni and Anna Becker each won singles matches for Dover, the Eagles just needed one doubles victory to win the match.

Alyssa Lesher and Mary Teaford provided that victory in No. 2 doubles in a match that took multiple tiebreakers. The Eagles duo won that match, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6), 6-1, to give the Eagles a team win.
