In a game that saw a combined 28 walks and 13 errors, Gettysburg softball emerged victorious when Sam Riggs blooped an eighth-inning single into shallow center field that plated the winning run in the Warriors' 17-16 win over Bermudian Springs.

Alexis Kennedy started the winning rally with a walk. Then a strikeout, an error and another walk set things up for Riggs' heroics.

"We didn't win today, we survived," Gettysburg head coach Max Laing said. "We went from up three, to down four, to tied before finally winning the game."

Bermudian (2-8) trailed 12-9 to start the seventh inning, but the Eagles tallied seven runs in the frame to jump ahead, 16-12, only to watch Gettysburg tie it in its half of the inning.

Down 16-13 with the bases loaded and two outs, Gettysburg center fielder Maddie Henley ripped a bases-clearing triple that knotted the game at 16.

In all, Gettysburg scored 10 runs in the final three innings, but had just three hits in the process.

For the game, the Warriors had nine hits, drew 17 walks and benefited from 10 Bermudian errors.

"You can't give teams free passes and extra outs, that will haunt you," Bermudian coach Ed Kennell said. "I'm proud of our girls. We battled all day long, but we gave them too many chances."

Gettysburg (7-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and led 5-3 after three innings before an Eagles' rally gave the visitors their first lead of the contest in the fourth at 6-5.

Bri Crushong pushed the hosts in front with a two-run single in the fifth only to have Bermudian score three in the sixth and then the Warriors struck for five in the bottom of the sixth.

Gettysburg entered the contest 19th in the latest District 3 Class AAA power rankings with the top 16 earning playoff spots.

"This was an important game for us, as are all of them the rest of the way," Laing said. "We've missed the playoffs each of the past two years by one win. And you never want to put yourself in the position where you have to win out to get in."

Bermudian Springs accumulated 15 hits and drew 11 walks with Jackie Faircloth supplying four hits. Amanda Womer had three hits and Mackenzie Farley, Morgan Williams, Madi Feeser and Olivia Blasone each had two knocks.

For Gettysburg, Henley, Crushong and Kennedy all had two hits apiece.
