York Suburban to name Matt Marshall AD
Matt Marshall is set to become the new athletic Director at York Suburban High School.
The school board will announce the hiring of Marshall at Monday’s meeting, according to the meeting agenda posted online. Marshall, a 2006 graduate of Spring Grove High School, served as an assistant coordinator for the York Suburban football team last season.
“When you look at the community and the people that are involved with York Suburban, it’s obviously a great atmosphere and environment which I’m really looking forward to being a part of,” Marshall said.
Marshall is hoping to build off the accomplishments the school’s athletic programs has already had.
“Continue that tradition and hopefully keep it moving forward is something I’m really excited about,” he said.
The athletic director position at Suburban had previously been held by Chris Adams, who also serves as assistant principle at the school. Since his hiring Adams has held the dual role and is being recommended to stay on as assistant principle for this upcoming year, according to Monday’s agenda.
Marshall learned the position was open and began the interview process three weeks ago, he said. He was offered the athletic director job in the middle of this past week. Marshall will take over the position effective June 13, according to the Monday’s agenda.
His early goals for the program are pretty straight forward. Marshall plans to sit down and have “open communication” with those involved in athletic department.
“Seeing where their mindset is right now,” Marshall said. “And hopefully collaborating and working with one another. And, like I said, keeping the program moving forward.”
Marshall is no stranger to York County sports fans or the York Suburban community. During his time at Spring Grove, Marshall set the county record for career passing yards, with 4,894. Coincidentally, Trojans quarterback Thomas Merkle broke that record this past season while Marshall was on the sideline as an assistant.
Marshall’s father, Brian Marshall, also serves as the offensive coordinator for the football team and teaches in the school district.
The time he’s spent at Suburban and his connections to the school have already helped build an appreciation for the community there, Marshall said.
“I’ve had the fortunate pleasure to be around a lot of the people at York Suburban, and start to understand the culture and what they’re all about there,” he said.
