YAIAA top performers, April 7


While rain postponed a majority of YAIAA action on Thursday, a few lacrosse, tennis, volleyball and softball teams took the field and braved the elements.

Red Lion's girls' lacrosse team took home top performer honors, registering its first victory against West York in program history, 14-8.

Peyton Shima led the Lions with five goals and Alyssa Adams added four.

The win pushed the Lions to 3-1 in the YAIAA and 3-2 overall.

Here's a glance at the other top performers from around the YAIAA:

Girls' lacrosse

New Oxford's Braxtin Reddinger, a regular in the top performers, scored six goals and added two assists in the Colonials' 17-5 win againstYork Suburban. The win kept New Oxford unbeaten in the YAIAA at 4-0. ...York Catholic also improved to 4-0 in the YAIAA with a 15-6 win over Eastern York. Anna Linthicum led the Fighting Irish with five goals and two assists.

Boys' volleyball

West York's Sam Lovelace slammed home 11 kills, leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 sweep of Antietam.

Softball

Gettysburg's Taylor Mummert went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in the Warriors' 10-5 YAIAA Division II-opening victory. Teammate Shanna Martin went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while striking out four in the circle.

Boys' lacrosse

York Suburban's Collin Mailman scored six goals and added two assists, delivering the Trojans a 17-6 win over New Oxford. Teammates Mike Sipes and Riley Purcell added five goals and four goals, respectively. ... Susquehannock's Anthony DeVincent dished out seven assists in the Warriors' 18-1 victory over Kennard-Dale. ... Dallastown's Ryan Dodson scored six times in the Wildcats' 10-5 win over Spring Grove.

Boys' tennis

New Oxford swept singles action, led by Joey Stiles at the top spot to beat Northern York, 5-0, in a rain-abbreviated match.
