Central York hears more Livingston comment
For the second consecutive week, several Central York graduates and residents attended the school board meeting to discuss the future of longtime football and boys' volleyball coach Brad Livingston. No action was taken regarding Livingston's employment status at Monday's meeting.
In light of rumors that Livingston could be let go as a head coach, several members of the 35-person crowd stepped up to the podium in defense of Livingston. Speakers included his longtime assistant coach Matt Baker, who called it "appalling" that his future was even in question. Baker added that Livingston had molded thousands of young kids into men by teaching them there is more to life than football.
Two former players also stepped up to the podium, crediting Livingston with a large portion of their successes in life. Livingston's character and ability to make everyone feel welcome was also praised.
Of the six members of the public to speak, five complimented Livingston. One person questioned how Central could allow a coach who is supposed to lead young men to allow "demeaning comments be made about other students." She did not reference a specific incident.
School board member Ed Blankenstein praised the longtime coach and added, "There is no one in this district with a higher moral character."
The meeting adjourned after roughly 15 minutes of public comment and the board went into an executive session to discuss a personnel issue. The board is not obligated to share what is discussed in specific executive sessions.
