NL's Daub runner-up at regionals


WEST LAWN >> Northern Lebanon's Evan Daub was especially happy to get to the semifinal round of the PIAA Class AA Southeastern Regional at Wilson West Lawn High School Saturday morning.

"I got a win Friday night and slept a lot better," said the 170-pounder. "From here, I can just go out and do my best. This is a tough tournament."

He continued with his assault in the morning when he registered a 10-0 major decision over Travis Wickard of Boiling Springs in the semifinal. However, Daub's ran into Bermudian Springs's Briton Shelton in the finals and he was eventually pinned in 2:29.

Teammates Luke Funck dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat at 160 and Craig Spitler suffered a fall at 182 in the semifinals. Also in the round, Annville-Cleona's Josh Renninger was beaten in a 21-8 decision. Renninger's day ended in the third round of consolations when he lost a tough 2-1 decision to Jason Jones of Saucon Valley.

However, Funck came back to gain a third-place finish when he decked Matthew Miller of Williams Valley in 3:33.
