Northern Lebanon's Anderson 14th in state 50 free

It was Brookelle's Anderson's first appearance at the PIAA Swimming Championships.

Based on her performance on Thursday, it won't be her last.

Northern Lebanon freshman Anderson more than proved she belonged on Pennsylvania swimming's biggest stage, placing 14th in the Class 2A 50-yard freestyle during the first day of competition at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium Thursday.

Anderson's time of 24.62 bested her seed time by .29 seconds that had her ranked 26th heading into the event. Anderson also took 30th in the 100 butterfly.

Taylor Petrak of Ellwood City won the state title in the 2A 50 free in 22.94 seconds.

The state meet continues through Sunday at Bucknell. Palmyra's Ellie Keck (100 butterfly) and Caitlyn Gelgot (50 freestyle) will be in action on Saturday in AAA girls competition, while Cedar Crest's Eli Gryboski will compete in the boys AAA 100 breast stroke on Sunday.
