Culver grabs bronze again at district swimming

Another day, another district swimming medal for Teag Culver.

The Palmyra senior followed up a bronze medal-winning performance on Friday in the 200-yard freestyle with another third-place finish on Saturday, this time in the 500-yard freestyle during the second and final day of the District 3 Class AA Swimming Championships at Cumberland Valley.

Culver posted a time of 4:52.77 en route to making another trip to the medal stand, then teamed up with Joshua Wakefield, Ryan James and Tanner Yaw to tie for fourth place in the final event of the day - the 400 freestyle relay. Wakefield added a second medal on Saturday, taking eighth place in the 100 freestyle and helping the Cougars finish fifth in the team standings with 154 total points.

But Culver, Wakefield and their Palmyra relay teammates were not Lebanon County's only medal-winners on Saturday. Also securing hardware for a second straight day were Adam Fox and Cole Connelly of Annville-Cleona.

Fox, seventh in the 50 freestyle on Friday, snagged fourth place in the 100 freestyle, while Connelly followed up his sixth-place showing in the 200 IM on Friday by placing eighth in the 100 breaststroke.

Also for the Palmyra boys on Saturday, Ryan James grabbed 11th place and Nick Mosby 20th in the 100 backstroke, and Austin Durand was 17th in the breaststroke.

In girls AA on Saturday, Lebanon Catholic's Vyktoria Kline was the lone county competitor, placing 12th in the 100 backstroke.

In boys AAA, Cedar Crest's Glaucio Silva led the way with a 1:00.42 race in the 100 breaststroke, good for 10th place. Falcons junior Matthew Moffit took 19th in the 100 backstroke by swimming 55.38. Cedar Crest's AJ Loehr registered 25th in the 100 freestyle. As a team, the Falcons finished ninth in the 400 freestyle relay, swimming in 3:19.43.

Wrapping up the weekend were the AAA girls, where Caitlyn Gelgot's ninth-place finish in the 100 free highlighted the night for Cedar Crest. Elsewhere, Falcons freshman Krysta Weik raced to the 24th spot in the 500 free and 26th in the 100 backstroke.

For Palmyra, Ellie Keck earned the Cougars' highest honor with her seventh-place time of 1:08.99 in the 100 breaststroke, the same event in which Kate Sanborn trailed in 25th. Palmyra's Samantha St. Clair and Kate Hess registered 13th and 18th, respectively, in the 500 free, while Karly Bruce took 25th. Freshman Shealyn Trostle landed in 26th during the 100 backstroke, while Hess finished 31st.

St. Clair, Bruce, Trostle and Keck then combined for 10th place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.11.
