Pequea Valley secures first winning season with victory over A-C

ANNVILLE >> It was a history-making night in Lebanon County.

With a 21-10 win over Annville-Cleona in the regular-season finale, Pequea Valley secured a 6-4 overall record, marking the first winning season in school history.

"This means everything for this program," said PV coach Mike Choi. "This is why we came here. When I took this job, I saw something special in the community and these kids. I knew we could get this program to be legit."

Despite the win, the Braves likely came up just short of earning a playoff berth. Seeded 10th entering Friday night, the Braves jumped one spot and finished ninth, one spot out of the eight-team Class AA field.

"The playoffs are secondary," said Choi. "Our first goal was to get over .500, get six wins and get that monkey off our back."

Key moment: clinging to a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter, Gabe Allgyer sprinted 61 yards from the PV 26 to the Dutchmen 13. Two plays later, Allgyer scored from five yards out giving the Braves an 11-point cushion with 2:26 to play.

Star of the game: Braves quarterback Jordan Lapp completed 12-of-18 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore signal caller also ran for 89 yards, including a 32-yard TD that put PV up 7-0.

Key statistic: the Dutchmen 2-4 Section Three, 6-4 overall) turned the ball over five times (four fumbles, one interception). The Braves converted two first-half fumbles into a 14-0 lead.

Quotable: Choi, on defense: "They were really, really good. They stepped up again tonight. They've been playing really well all year.

Choi, on Lapp: "We saw enough of him last year to know he could be very good. What's happened is he has turned into a special player. You can see the confidence, it's his team now."
