GIRLS SOCCER: Elco inches closer to section title


The Elco girls soccer team moved to the brink of a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Three title on Monday, rolling past Lebanon Catholic 6-1 in Myerstown.

The win lifted the Raiders to 11-1-1 in the section, which it can clinch outright with a win at Lancaster Catholic on Wednesday night.

Ryelle Shuey led the way with a hat trick, while Jenna Oliviero, Meredith Balsbaugh and Taylor Bossert also found the back of the net for Elco, now 13-3-1 overall.

Jayden Shellehamer scored for Lebanon Catholic, which fell to 5-11 and 2-11 in Section Three.

ANNVILLE-CLEONA 2, PEQUEA VALLEY 1 (OT)>> In Annville, Reagan Hess scored in the 93rd minute to lift A-C to the dramatic extra time win and closer to an L-L playoff berth.

Now 7-5 in Section Three and just ahead of Pequea (6-6-1) for the section's final playoff spot, A-C also got a second half goal from Hess and assists from Jo Myers and Sarah Fischer in the win, while Anna Soliday stopped seven shots in goal to earn the victory.

SOLANCO 4, LEBANON 2 >> In Quarryville, the Cedars stayed winless despite goals from Madison Hartman and Annabelle Deufel.

Hartman and Morgan Truax added assists for Lebanon, which was outshot 25-5.

LANCASTER CATHOLIC 3, NORTHERN LEBANON 1 >> In Lancaster, the Vikings managed a Jenna Wentling goal just before the half, but couldn't add anything to it.

Sophia Packard and Emily Steinbeiser scored for the Crusaders in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and give the home team the win.
