FIELD HOCKEY: Annville-Cleona stays on a roll, downs Lancaster Catholic


The Annville-Cleona field hockey team continued its march toward potential Lancaster-Lebanon League and District Three playoff berths on Tuesday, upending Lancaster Catholic 3-1 in a Section Three matchup at Annville-Cleona High School.

Now 10-4 overall and 8-2 in Section Three, A-C got a pair of Meredith Bachman goals in the win, and made the most of just four shots on goal.

Tori Malloy also scored for the Little Dutchmen, and Michaela Singer added an assist to the win.

PALMYRA 5, RED LAND 0 >> In Lewisberry, the Cougars stayed on track for Monday's rematch/showdown with Lower Dauphin, blanking the Patriots behind a pair of goals from Kiley Gallagher.

Nicole Shank, Erin Huffman and Lexy Smith also scored for Palmyra, which improved to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the Mid-Penn Keystone Division, just behind first-place Lower Dauphin (8-0-1).

CEDAR CREST 2, WARWICK 1 >> In South Lebanon, the Falcons put the brakes on a three-game losing skid, jumping to a 2-0 halftime lead and hanging on from there.

Emily Hombach and Emily Peters scored for Cedar Crest, now 7-8 overall and 4-7 in Section One, and Kelsey Bell earned the win in goal with six saves. Lexie Eberly added a defensive save for the Falcons.

NORTHERN LEBANON 1, PEQUEA VALLEY 0 >> In Fredericksburg, Sydney Mengel and Hannah Whitman led the Vikings to a season sweep of the Braves.

Mengel scored the game's lone goal 22 seconds into the first half, and Whitman made it stand up with 12 saves as Northern Lebanon improved to 3-8 overall and 2-7 in Section Three.

LANCASTER MENNONITE 3, ELCO 2 >> In Lancaster, the Raiders gave Mennonite a battle before falling by a single goal.

Abbie Keath and Sierra Swingholm found the back of the cage for Elco (3-9-1 overall, 3-6 Section Three) and Madison Harnish and Emily Witmer chipped in with assists in the loss.
