SOCCER ROUNDUP: Cedar Crest sweeps Hempfield via 1-0 victories


Luke Hain scored in the 47th minute and the Cedar Crest boys' soccer team held on for a 1-0 shutout at Hempfield on Tuesday. Falcons keeper Jake Beard recorded 10 saves in the victory, nine more than his Black Knight counterpart, Ryan Shiner. Mark Wolf earned the game's only assist, setting up one of Cedar Crest's two shots on the night.

The Falcons improved to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in Section One competition.

LOWER DAUPHIN 3, PALMYRA 0>> Tanner Yaw posted 10 saves, but the Cougars dropped a tough division game at home. Tim Townsend collected a goal and an assist for the Falcons, who scored twice in the first half and once post-intermission. Palmyra failed to earn a single corner on the afternoon.

NEW COVENANT CHRISTIAN 5, CHRISTIAN SCHOOL OF YORK 2>> The Flames earned a key win in the CCAC West, as Zach Burns and Toby Kornhaus each scored twice. The duo combined for a pair of first-half goals and another after the break.

Girls' soccer

CEDAR CREST 1, HEMPFIELD 0>> Over in South Lebanon, Ariel Jones struck for an unassisted goal in the 58th minute and that was all the Falcons needed to secure another section win. Cedar Crest's Desiree Leffler made four stops in goal, while Jones' score served as the only difference between the two teams in the shots department. Both the Falcons and Black Knights took three corner kicks.

GARDEN SPOT 5, LEBANON 1>> Claire Brier netted four goals and the Spartans overwhelmed the Cedars in New Holland. Lebanon's Madison Hartman broke up Brier's scoring streak with a goal in the 37th minute. Vanessa Valentine saved 11 shots for the Cedars.
