Palmyra girls XC takes LVC Invitational crown


The Palmyra girls cross country team has won its share of titles over the years.

The Cougars won another one on Saturday, capturing the annual LVC Invitational at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon.

Sophomore Sarah Hollen, daughter of new head coach Dave Hollen, led the way, placing second in 19:46.36, as Palmyra's five scoring runners all placed in the top 22.

Kelsei Bixler was sixth (20:15.17), Ellie Keck seventh (20:29.39), freshman Amelia Baldo 19th (21:33.48) and Katie Keck 22nd (21:43.10).

Annville-Cleona was 10th, led by Sarah Domencic's 38th place effort, and Northern Lebanon 11th fronted by Charley Darkes in 48th.

The Palmyra boys finished second to Milton Hershey, with Derek Wadas (eighth), Jake Herman (12th), Brad Blaszynski (15th), Kevin Cole (20th) and Garrett Funck (23rd) doing the heavy lifting.

Anthony Fratarole (16th) paced Annville-Cleona to a ninth place finish, with Lebanon 12th and Northern Lebanon 13th.

Lebanon's Derin Klick cracked the top 10, placing ninth.

Joseph Piascano of St. Joe's Prep won the boys' race in 16:22.40, while the girls' win went to Jamie Zamrin of Cocalico with a time of 19:30.31.

In the collegiate competition, LVC's Kelsey Patrick won the women's race, setting a new course record of 18:08.91 in the process.

The LVC women placed fourth out of nine teams, while the men were third out of eight.
