FOOTBALL: Palmyra cruises past East Pennsboro, 27-6

The Palmyra football team has some high hopes and expectations for itself this season.

They didn't get any lower on Friday night.

The Cougars were most impressive in their season debut on Friday night, handling traditionally tough East Pennsboro, 27-6, on the Panthers' home turf.

Defense told the story for Palmyra, which got two interceptions from Carl Reigle, one of which he took back for a touchdown, and a 74-yard pick-six from Alon Rhette in the first that set the tone for the victory.

"We're really happy," said Palmyra coach Chris Pope. "We wanted to get off on the right foot and I think we did that. We're really pleased."

Reigle also had a big game offensively, rushing for 139 yards on 22 carries, including a 39-yard scoring romp in the fourth quarter. Rhette gave the Cougars a second 100-yard rusher, toting the rock 30 times for 111 yards.

Conversely, East Pennsboro managed just 55 yards rushing on 20 attempts.

Ethan Harro added a 37-yard field goal to the win for Palmyra, which hosts county rival Elco at Buck Swank Stadium next week.
