TRACK AND FIELD: Lancaster County competitors shine at districts.


SHIPPENSBURG >> Lancaster County athletes enjoyed numerous bright moments during the first day of the District Three Track and Field Championships on Friday.

The locals reached the top of the medal stand three times, led by Cocalico shot putter extraordinaire Emily Stauffer, who struck gold in girls AAA with a heave of 43-7.

Jordan Haberstroh of Columbia ( AA girls 3200) and David Lucas of Warwick (AAA boys discus) were the county's other winners during competition at Shippensburg University's Seth Grove Stadium.

Lancaster competitors added four silvers to the medal collection on Friday, courtesy of Ephrata's Kelly Liebl (girls AAA long jump), Alex Fitzgerald of Lancaster Catholic (boys AA triple jump), Nathan Henderson of McCaskey (boys AAA 3200 run) and Tyler Hoag of Manheim (boys AAA discus).

Stauffer, Haberstroh, Lucas, Liebl, Fitzgerald, Henderson and Hoag all qualified for next weekend's PIAA State Championships with their performances on Friday.
