A-C softball wins own tournament

If you're going to host a tournament, you might as well win it.

The Annville-Cleona softball team took that approach to its own four-team tourney on Saturday, knocking off Lebanon 17-5 in the first round, then blanking Cedar Crest 2-0 in the championship game.

Emma Lerchen tossed a two-hit shutout in the title game, and Michaela Singer drove in both runs in the seventh, while Cassie Flocken and Emma Spang had the hits in a losing cause for Cedar Crest, which also got a seven-strikeout complete game pitching effort from Maddie Gable.

Cedar Crest routed Palmyra 11-0 in five innings in the opener behind three hits apiece from Des Mancil and Bailey Perry-McClintic.

A-C's rout of Lebanon in its opener came via a 17-hit attack led by three hits and six RBIs from Lauren Schrader.

Palmyra bounced back to beat Lebanon 16-0 in five innings in the consolation game behind two hits and two RBIs apiece from Ashley Acri and Meagan Quigley.
