SOFTBALL: A-C, Pequea Valley set for playoff


Get ready for Annville-Cleona-Pequea Valley III.

The Lancaster-Lebanon Section Four softball rivals will need an extra game to determine the section champ after the two finished the regular season section slate with identical 12-4 records.

Pequea Valley hammered Columbia 11-1 on Monday, and A-C took care of Lancaster Catholic by an 11-4 score to set up a winner-take-all showdown for the section crown on Wednesday at 4:30 at Warwick.

A-C did its part to set things up by pounding out 12 hits on Monday, including a two-run home run by Morgan Zimmerman.

Mindy Reigle and Amber Rexrode added three hits apiece and each drove in a pair to aid the pitching of Emma Lerchen, who struck out 11 in a complete-game effort.

NORTHERN LEBANON 11, ELCO 7>> Under the lights in Newmanstown, the Vikings and Raiders teamed up to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project and also combined for a 26-hit slugfest.

The Vikings got the better of it, with winning pitcher Jess Kreiser's home run leading the way.

Cortney Hostetter and Kacey Smoot added doubles, and Katie Hossler contributed a triple to the Northern Lebanon attack.

Jenna Kling doubled and tripled to pace Elco, which also got doubles from Beth Hess and Maddie Drescher.

Also on Monday, Lower Dauphin routed Palmyra 15-0 and Lancaster Mennonite took care of Lebanon Catholic 16-1.

Scores of the Manheim Township-Cedar Crest and Lebanon-Elizabethtown games were not reported.
