SOFTBALL: Wicker, Palmyra blank Middletown, 5-0


Cat Wicker tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out 15 to lead the Palmyra softball team to a 5-0 win over Middletown in Mid-Penn Keystone Division action on Friday.

Wicker was supported by a 12-hit attack that included base hits apiece for Payge Coburn, Bri Long, Hannah Phillippy and Bekah Sell.

Kayla Bonawitz added a triple for the Cougars, who broke open a 1-0 game with a four-run top of the sixth.

SOLANCO 19, LEBANON 0 (4 INNINGS) >> In Lebanon, the Cedars were routed in four innings by the visitors from Quarryville.

Solanco did most of its damage in the fourth inning, when it scored 11 times to bring the mercy rule into effect.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL >> On the opening day of Commonwealth Conference tournament play, two-time defending champ Lebanon Valley picked up a pair of victories, including a 5-3 upset of top-seeded Messiah.

Haley Neff picked up the win in both games for fourth-seeded LVC, which improved to 14-21 on the way to advancing to today's 11 a.m. unbeaten game against No. 2 Widener.
