Cedar Crest bounces back, wins consy

On Tuesday night, for the first time this season, the Cedar Crest girls basketball team got knocked down.

Thursday, the Falcons began the business of getting back up, starting what they hope will be another lengthy win streak by upending Central York 48-41 in the District 3 6A third place game at Manheim Township.

Now 27-1, Lancaster-Lebanon League champ Cedar Crest, which fell to Central Dauphin in the district semifinals Tuesday, will be back in action Friday when it faces the District 1 5th seed in a state playoff opener. Site and time for the matchup against either North Penn or Boyertown is still to be determined.

The Falcons bounced back from their only defeat of the season by outscoring Central York 19-8 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 33-29 deficit after three.

Ariel Jones led the way for Jim Donmoyer's club with 17 points that included 8-of-10 free throw shooting. Alyssa Austin and Raven Morgan added nine points apiece for the Falcons, who also trailed 15-7 after the first quarter and 26-20 at the half.

Teirra Preston paced Central York (24-4) with 13 points, Nikson Valencik added 11 and Emma Saxton chipped in with 10.

Cedar Crest helped its cause with 13-for-16 free throw shooting, outscoring Central York 13-7 at the foul line.
