Palmyra tops McCaskey, wins fourth straight

The Palmyra girls basketball team appears to have found itself after a slow start to the season.

The Cougars notched their fourth straight victory on Monday night and it was a quality one at that, a 52-49 victory over McCaskey in the opening round of the Ephrata Holiday Tournament.

Now 5-4 after a 1-4 start, the young Cougars were led by their senior catalyst, Molly Gundermann, who dropped in a team-high 15 points while tying McCaskey's Ahnera Parker for game-high point honors.

Olivia Richardson added 11 points for Palmyra, which tallied 13 points in each quarter on the way to the win.

The Cougars will meet Lampeter-Strasburg, a 61-60 winner over host Ephrata in tonight's 8 p.m. championship game.

Blue Mountain 57, Elco 37: In the opening round of the Pine Grove holiday event, the Raiders fell by 20 and dropped to 4-4 for the season.

No other details were reported. Elco will next face Donegal, which fell to Pine Grove 49-43, in today's 3 p.m. consolation game.
