Cedar Crest tops Hempfield in OT


The Cedar Crest girls basketball team stayed unbeaten on Monday night, but it wasn't easy.

On the heels of a statement win over McCaskey on Friday night, Cedar Crest needed overtime to subdue another Section One rival, Hempfield, outlasting the Black Knights 57-52 in OT in Landisville.

The dynamic duo of Ariel Jones and Alyssa Austin helped the Falcons survive, tallying 24 and 21 points, respectively, as Crest outscored Hempfield 8-3 in the extra session to improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Section One.

Trinity Sumrall led Hempfield (5-4, 3-2) with 16 points.

Ephrata 44, Lebanon 37: At Ephrata, the Cedars dropped their third straight and lost a share of first place in Section Two in the process.

Now 3-4 overall and 2-3 in Section Two, Lebanon was led by Alexis Hill's 18 points and also got 10 points from Ary'Anna Ortolazo in the loss.

 Lancaster Catholic 74, Lebanon Catholic 32: In Lancaster, the Beavers saw their modest two-game win streak halted in emphatic fashion.

Down 14-2 after the first quarter, the Beavers never recovered while falling to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in Section Four. Neesha Pierre topped Catholic in a losing cause with 11 points, and Kiki Jefferson led three Lancaster Catholic scorers in double figures with 25 points.

Lampeter-Strasburg 48, Elco 41: In Lampeter, the Raiders fell for the third straight time despite a 19-point outburst from freshman Ryelle Shuey.

Alexis Thomas added 13 points as Elco fell to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in Section Three.

Nevin Hoenninger paced the Pioneers (4-4, 3-2) with 23 points.
