Manheim Twp.'s run game grounds up Lebanon, 71-20

NEFFSVILLE - Manheim Township earned its fifth win of the season, toppling visiting Lebanon, 71-20, in a Section One football contest Friday night.

The Blue Streaks are now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in Section One. The Cedars fell to 1-8, 0-6.

Township used its running game to amass 368 yards on 29 carries. The Streaks also scored three touchdowns though the air, despite throwing the ball only eight teams (completing 6).

Meanwhile, the Cedars scored three touchdowns through the air as well, as Zakee Sailsman completed 15 of 30 attempts for 226 yards. He also threw one interception, which was returned for a 50-yard touchdown by Rece Bender.

Township scored on all of its offensive possessions but two, and one of its punts came late in the game.

Key to the game: Besides piling up big yards rushing the ball,  the Manheim Township defense sacked Sailsman six times.

Turning point: After Lebanon scored its first touchdown to close the gap to 7-6 with half the first quarter remaining, Township scored three unanswered touchdowns before the first quarter ended to put the score at 28-6 and effectively put the game out of reach.

Standouts: As part of the 368 rushing yards for the Streaks, running back Matt Van Gorden rushed for 102 yards and scored two touchdowns. Kade Kubicki also hauled in a couple of touchdown passes from Luke Emge. For Lebanon, Jeremiah Beckley caught scoring tosses of 43 and 48 yards, and Phillip Hillesheim grabbed one for 29 yards.
