LEBANON — Following a one-point win over Spring-Ford on Sept. 9 and a loss to Central Dauphin on Sept. 16, there was some small talk out there that this might be the year someone dethrones Wilson in Section One of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
Not so much with that talk any more.
Even though Lebanon was stingy throughout its Section One contest at Alumni Field on Friday night and racked up 305 yards offense, it wasn't enough to stop the Bulldogs’ streak, which now sits at 61 by virtue of a 68-19 win.
Justin Weller's 10-yard reception from Conner Uhrig (9 of 11, 193 yards, four touchdowns) put Wilson on the board first, and it never looked back.
Lebanon's defense made things interesting early, as did the passing and running of quarterback Zakee Sailsman throughout the game, but when the Bulldogs needed a big play, it was there for the taking.
Turning point: Following a 2-yard score by the Bulldogs’ Ignacion Reynoso with 4:59 left in the first quarter, Lebanon turned to its passing game and was driving for a score when Brian Wright stepped in front of a Sailsman pass for an interception. The Bulldogs then drove the ball 91 yards on a 10-play series for Wellers’ second score.
Three stars of the game: Uhrig, who had four touchdown passes, and Reynoso (4 TDs, 255 yards) for Wilson. Lebanon’s Sailsman (107 yards rushing, 186 yards passing for 2 TDs) did everything to keep the Cedars in the game.
Quotable: "Kids are kids and they stopped executing their game plan, and they have a quarterback you can build a team around," Wilson coach Doug Dahms, on Lebanon scoring twice before halftime.
Up next: Wilson returns to West Lawn for a key Section One game with Manheim Township, while the Cedars look to get their first section win when they host McCaskey.
