LEBANON — Cedar Crest opened Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two play with a 49-16 victory over visiting Ephrata on Friday night.
The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall, while Ephrata fell to 0-4. The Mounts now have a 35-game losing streak and are still seeking their first victory since the next-to-last game of the 2012 season.
Cedar Crest scored on its first possession, when Tate Seyfert ran for an 80-yard touchdown with 8:59 left in the first quarter.
Seyfert finished the game with 130 yards on the ground on only five carries, while scoring a pair of touchdowns.
For the game, the Falcons rushed for an astounding 422 yards on 41 carries.
For Ephrata, Adam Smith was the leader on offense, scoring both touchdowns, rushing scores from 4 yards and 15 yards out. Smith also converted a two-point conversion and he finished the game with 97 yards on 19 carries.
Key to the game: Besides Seyfert’s big performances, four teammates rushed for 40 or more yards. Kendell Shand had one carry for 67 yards and a touchdown; Justice Belleman had 50 yards and one touchdown; A.J. Apple totaled 45 yards and two touchdowns; and Neisso Dorvil rushed for 44 yards.
Key stat: The Cedar Crest defense was stellar in the first half, holding Ephrata to minus-8 yards offensively.
Up next: Both teams are at home next Friday. Cedar Crest hosts Garden Spot, while Ephrata hosts Lampeter-Strasburg.
