Palmyra boys top Fleetwood in district opener

The Palmyra boys volleyball program has only competed at the varsity level for three years.

And for two of those three years, the Cougars have been a district playoff qualifier - and winner.

On Thursday night, for the second straight season, Palmyra won a postseason game, taking down Fleetwood 3-0 in a District 3 2A opener at Spring Grove.

En route to the victory, the Cougars (8-9) won by set scores of 25-17, 27-25 and 26-24 to assure a meeting with top-seeded Manheim Central in Monday's quarterfinal round.

Tyler Sheaffer led the way with 11 kills, Seth Hutchinson had 13 assists  and Joey McInerney tallied nine digs. McInerney and Ryan Betz each added one block and McInerney also had two aces.

In addition, Abel Gebre, Cole Schiffhaur and David Bieler each had one ace for Palmyra.
