Cedar Crest sweeps tri-meet at A-C
ANNVILLE – Now that most teams have a few meets under their belt, some have begun to build confidence and find their groove as we move towards the halfway point of the season.
After Thursday’s tri-meet at Annville-Cleona, its looks as though it’s the Cedar Crest Falcons who have demonstrated that after handing both Little Dutchmen teams their first loss of the season, while also defeating the Lebanon Cedars.
Cedar Crest took the girls meet handily over A-C and Lebanon ,with 109.5 points to A-C's 64.5 and Lebanon's 12. The Falcons put the rout on in the boys meet as well, totaling 98.5 points, compared to Lebanon's 47.5 and A-C's 43. With their wins, both the Cedar Crest boys and girls improve to 3-1 overall.
“Our teams took a big step forward down at Conestoga Valley Monday and we were able to step up again today. I’m real proud of them all,” said Falcons coach Rob Bare. “Annville-Cleona can do a lot of things well. I think we’re all on the same page. If we keep working hard and sticking to the motto ‘Earned. Not Given.’ we’ll be in good shape.”
Bryce Vukovich led the Cedar Crest boys with a win in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:42.2. He agrees the win is a stepping stone for the rest of the season.
“I wasn’t really thinking and just going with it. It felt good, I’d say, overall,” Vukovich said. “We’re really starting to come together as a team. We’re running strong, jumping great and throwing well. I think it’s going to be a really good season.”
Luke Allwein also had a big day for the Falcon boys team, winning both hurdles events. Allwein won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.9, while taking the 110-meter hurdles in 17.5.
On the girls side for Cedar Crest, Emily Peters and Ariel Jones led the way, each winning two events. Peters took the 400-meter dash in 1:01.1 and the 3200-meter run in 12:38. Jones won the high jump in 5’2,” as well as the triple jump in 35'0”. Destinee Holloman also grabbed the with a win in the 100-meter dash in 13.0.
But despite the big wins for both teams, Bare is still far from satisfied, though he’s excited for both teams’ potential.
“We have a ways to go. We haven’t made a statement yet. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can,” Bare said. “There’s some great kids in Lebanon County and the Lancaster-Lebanon League this year. We still have some work to do.”
The Little Dutchmen (2-1) took both the 4 x 400-meter and 4 x 800-meter relays in the girls meet, while Stanley Miller led the boys team with wins in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash in 11.3 and 23.5, respectively. For the Cedars (2-2, 0-4) , Alan Cooper, Derin Klick, and Huy Luu all picked up wins in the high jump, 800-meter run, and pole vault, respectively. Cooper won his event jumping 5’10,” while Luu cleared 13'6” in the pole vault. Klick won the 800 in 1:58.1.
